Recreational and Team Building Opportunities
Floorplan
Sometimes what your group does together outside of the meeting can be just as important in solidifying your team or
stimulating creativity as what you discuss. Bluefin Bay and the neighboring vicinity provide some of the most diverse
and unique recreational opportunities anywhere. The ancient Sawtooth Mountains, overlooking the shore of the world's
largest inland sea and surrounded by both the Superior National Forest and the BWCAW, provide year-round kaleidoscopes of
natural beauty and recreation.
We live here because we love the outdoors, and we take a special delight in sharing that enjoyment with our Guests.
Our "North Coast Concierge" can assist your group in using your time here to the fullest. We can design, guide, and/or
outfit your group for any of the activities you wish to have to ensure that you get the most from our facilities and
area. Each season brings with it new choices for outdoor activities.
Spring, Summer and Fall
GOLF
Our 27 hole championship golf course, Superior National, has been called "The Cadillac of Minnesota
Resort Courses" by the Minnesota Explorer magazine. Located at the foot of Moose Mountain and overlooking the North Coast
of Lake Superior, its fairways are cut through virgin forests and cross raging rapids and waterfalls. Nobody can play
this course just once! Bring your camera!
HIKING
Along our trails, you will discover some of the most beautiful
waterfalls on the North Coast. Running through the whittled gorges of
lava and stone, the paths of the Temperance, Caribou, Poplar and Cascade
make their descent of hundreds of feet as they race towards the lakeshore.
The Superior Hiking Trail is second only to the Appalachian Trail in national recognition for the beauty of its
scenery and the variety of its terrain. These and many other exceptional day hikes of any length are accessible
from Bluefin Bay.
FISHING
We can arrange charter trips on Lake Superior in search of salmon and lake trout. A stringer of three
to eight pound fish is an everyday occurrence. We can also arrange inland fishing on both lakes and streams,
either guided or on your own.
CANOEING
The BWCAW is the nation's best-known wilderness area. You can enjoy just a sample of this unspoiled
natural world on trips of a few hours to a full day. We can organize your departure and return to Bluefin Bay.
BIKING
Miles of off-road trails challenge the heartiest biker. More relaxing rides are available
along narrow roads through the forest. Deer, moose, wolves and eagles are common sights.
ALPINE SLIDE AND GONDOLA SCENIC RIDE
For some man-made fun, try these rides for the kid in all of us.
Winter
DOWNHILL SKIING
Lutsen Mountains Ski Area is by far the largest, highest and best downhill skiing between the
Rockies and the Appalachians. It features hundreds of acres of ski-friendly terrain served by numerous lifts rising
1000 feet above Lake Superior.
CROSS COUNTRY SKIING
The Northshore Mountains Ski trail system departs from our front door. It includes over
250 km of groomed and tracked trails winding through the forest, appropriate for every skill level.
SKATING
Bluefin Bay's skating rink is located beside the Guest Services Center, and is lit in the evenings.
Experience the unforgettable feeling of skating a heartbeat from the rolling surf!
SNOWSHOEING
Summer hiking trails become winter snowshoeing trails, a great way to appreciate the quiet beauty
of the forest.
DOG SLED MUSHING
Want a truly unique experience? We can arrange anything from short rides on a dog sled to
an overnight in the BWCAW.
INDOOR RECREATIONAL FACILITIES
Provided in the Recreation Building are our pool, sauna and whirlpool.
If you are looking for a unique area to have a relaxing conversation,
our sauna can hold up to ten people, the whirlpool can hold nine people, and
of course, the pool can hold many more. The facilities also have changing
rooms complete with showers and towels.
