Pedal Power | Biking at Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts

05/10/2024

Embark on an adventure along Minnesota’s North Shore using pedal power! At Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts, bike rentals for both adults and kids are included in your stay. Join our fun Bike and Hike excursion, where you'll pedal along the scenic 2.1-mile stretch of the Gitchi Gami State Trail. Wind through the enchanting northern forest adorned with birch, balsam, and spruce trees. Upon reaching the picturesque Temperance River, we'll secure our bikes and take a refreshing hike along the riverbank, treating ourselves to beautiful views of the cascading waterfalls. After this invigorating hike, enjoy a leisurely bike ride back to Bluefin Bay, following a gentle downhill path for a satisfying conclusion to the journey.

Whether you bring your own, use the complimentary resort bikes, or rent an e-bike (extra charge applies), take advantage of the paved Gitchi Gami State Trail, which includes a 12-mile section that runs right next to the resort. The Gitchi Gami Trail currently includes 34 miles of completed sections between Gooseberry Falls State Park and Grand Marais. If you're bringing your own bikes, we highly recommend exploring these superb trail segments as another exciting way to experience the beauty of the North Shore of Lake Superior.

In addition to the local paved trail, this area has incredible gravel and mountain biking opportunities. For single-track enthusiasts, check out the Sugarbush Trail Association trails located just a couple miles from the resort and the Pincushion Mountain Biking Trails in Grand Marais. Moreover, Cook County boasts an abundance of gravel roads waiting to be explored. Connect with our resort activities staff for county maps and the must-visit roads and loops recommendations.

The Lutsen-Tofte and Grand Marais area has become known as a haven for bikers and biking events. The Le Grand Du Nord Gravel Cycling Classic is coming up on May 25th. Starting out in Grand Marais, this gravel course climbs almost 6000 ft with race distances of 110, 54, and 26 miles! Live music, a celebration at Voyageur Brewing Company and the vibe of Grand Marais make this a fun event for bikers and spectators. Check out this race and others hosted by Heck of The North Productions HERE

June 28th is the start of the popular Lutsen 99er race weekend. Several thousand bikers from around the country gather to race through the pristine north woods of Cook County. The race includes distances of 99, 69, 45 and 29 miles and the kids race on Friday evening.
